Breast Enlargement:
Most frequently asked questions
Is breast enlargement for me?
Breast enlargement is especially suitable for women who have either never
developed significant breast tissue or who has lost breast tissue following
breast feeding or weight loss. Patients feel less feminine because of
small breasts and often wear clothes to disguise their figures. However,
breast enlargement is for anybody who wishes to enhance their breasts.
Which implant should I choose?
There is choice of different types of implant.
a) Saline. Effective but may not be suitable for women with reduced breast
tissue. This type of implant may be more prone to rupture and deflation
and may not give the best aesthetic results. Women with thin skin tend
to be more susceptible to rippling with this type of implant.
b) Hydrogel. Provides an alternative to those women whom are not comfortable
with silicone. This implant is filled with a cocktail of water, salt and
sugar (hydrogel). This type of implant is more expensive than silicone
and has been temporarily taken off the market for investigation.
c) Silicone cohesive gel. The latest UK government research has reported
that no evidence has been found that silicone implants pose any health
threats. Copies of this report are available to the public. Simply call
Independent Review Group (IRG) on 0207 972 8000.Silicone gel is usually
the most popular implant due to its natural feel and shape and it is the
least expensive. As this implant has been in the market for over 30 years,
it has proved to be the safest and most natural off all the implants.
Can breast implants lift saggy breasts?
Yes, though it may be necessary to perform an uplift at the same time.
Your surgeon will advise you on this.
Where will the scars be?
There are three possible incisions: under the armpit, around the nipple
and on the crease of the breast. 98% of women choose the incision on the
crease as the breast will then cover the small scar.
All incisions allow the implant to be placed either submuscular or subglandular;
your surgeon will discuss the most suitable option in your case.
What are the risks?
As with any surgical procedure there can be inherent risks. However, when
breast enlargement is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications
are rare and usually minor. The complications that may occur are a reaction
to the anaesthesia, infection or haematoma. These are extremely rare.
You should follow the advise of your surgeon to minimize these risks.
What is your surgeons' experience?
All Continental Medical Services Ltd's surgeons are fully registered with
the General Medical Council and are NHS trained and approved. They operate
in fully registered private hospitals. Their qualifications can be viewed
on request at consultation.
How will I feel after the procedure?
During the first 24-48 hours, you will experience some discomfort as your
breasts will be swollen and tender, however, sedatives will be given as
necessary. The surgeon will see you before you are discharged.
It is important you follow your surgeon advice as follow up appointments
are necessary to ensure the final result. Although every patient recovery
time is different, you should be able to resume many of your regular activities
within a week. You will need to wait 4 weeks before resuming any strenuous
activity.
Is the initial consultation free?
Yes, it is free of charge. Simply call 0870 043 3859
